FLINT WORK
Flint walling is a traditional masonry material. It is very strong and very hard-wearing, lasting the rigors of time. Flint can be beautiful in many different styles - random patterns, coursed flint, flint squares. There are 2 main types of flint - field flint and chalk flint - with colours ranging from gold to grey to dark black, and all colours in-between. As long as you have the right mason on the right job, with imagination you can achieve truly spectacular results using flint.
TRADITIONAL LIME
Traditional lime is an extremely eco-friendly material to build with, as it absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere when it carbonises. There are many different colours and looks you can give to your mortar, using different sized aggregates and polishing techniques. NHL 3.5 lime is used above DPC and NHL 5 is used below DPC and in wet walls or parapets. Alongside this, there are lime putties, for gauged brickwork, tuck pointing and stonework, meaning lime is an extremely versatile material to work with. One of the benefits of using lime mortar is it moves with the building, resulting in less cracking and eliminates the need for expansion joints. Lime buildings that are standing today, some 500 years old or more, have needed minimal maintenance as lime can be self-healing (a process known as autogenous healing) and very durable. Lime has actually been used as a building material for 6000 years, with evidence of its use in the pyramids of Egypt!

Restoration work is one of our passions within the company. Restoring houses with traditional materials and techniques, turning a building which is in much need of love, into its former glory. We have worked on many projects with restoration and heritage specialists, ranging from Grade I listed buildings, to farmers cottages, and everything in-between.
